Kathmandu : Night Life

Thamel, north of Durbar Square and next to Royal Palace, is favourite hangout for Kathmandu's tourist population. A well-known bar in the area is Rum Doodle Restaurant & Bar - a perennial favourite with the teams of mountaineers who gather here for a last drink before they set out to conquer the snow capped peaks! Tom & Jerry Pub, opposite Pilgrims Book Store, has been open for a long time; it is noisy and has pool tables. Close by is New Orleans Cafe — a popular place to eat good food and often has live bands. In the same area is the Jump Club - a popular bar with a DJ and a small dance floor. Further north is the Tunnel Club — a popular top-floor place with very loud music and is open till late hours. Just opposite is Sam's Bar - a small place with good music that opens after 5 pm. The Pub Maya, which is associated with Maya Cocktail Bar has remained a favourite for a long time along with a well-known pub among youngsters, Station Pub. Close to Thamel Chowk is Underground Bar, which plays loud music. Further along on Tridevi Marg, Studio 54 is also popular. Fire Club and Spin Club, located at Thamel Chowk just next to Hot Breads, are other popular names for a night out.

If you are looking for more sophisticated options, head for the discos in some of the star hotels. Rox Bar at Hyatt Regency Kathmandu is one of the most happening names among the city's 'happening people'. Similarly, Club Platinum in the premises of Yak & Yeti and Galaxy Hyatt Regency, Kathmandu is the newest luxury hotel in the capital Discotheque at Everest Hotel are two other popular names for a night out. Some of the other happening bars are Juneli Bar at Hotel de 1' Annapurna and Jazz Bar at Hotel Shangri-La.
